Join us to celebrate the successes of our local writers! Books & Brews is FREE, family-friendly, and open to the public. This event is an opportunity for the public to meet and greet local authors in a festive book fair atmosphere. Moscow Alehouse is our beverage provider. In addition to an assortment of beer, wine, and non-alcoholic options, they will be serving huckleberry lemonade and their famous huckleberry mojitos!

Annette Bay Pimentel writes true stories about real people for kids. She is the author of All the Way to the Top: How One Girl’s Fight for Americans with Disabilities Changed Everything (Sourcebooks: 2020), which was a Junior Library Guild selection; Girl Running (Nancy Paulsen Books: 2018), which received a Kirkus starred review and was a Junior Library Guild selection; Mountain Chef (Charlesbridge: 2016), which received the Carter G. Woodson Award; and the Do You Really Want to Meet a Dinosaur? series (Amicus: 2016-2020), which was an NSTA recommended title. She is represented by Andrea Brown Literary. She is the assistant regional adviser to the Inland Northwest Region of the SCBWI. She lives with her husband and her children who haven’t yet flown the coop in Moscow, Idaho.

Cathay Reta
Cathay Reta has a 40-year career managing volunteers and designing and delivering training for adult literacy programs on local, state, and national levels. She has published articles in American Libraries, Public Library Quarterly, and Community Investments, and has written numerous instructional guides. At the age of 64 she traveled alone, walking the Camino de Santiago, a 483-mile pilgrimage trail in Spain. She has self-published three books, including Keep Walking, Your Heart Will Catch Up – a memoir of her hike on the Camino. Her mission is to help people live their passion, know their purpose and to live fully.

Colin Conway
Colin Conway is the creator of the 509 Crime Stories, the Cozy Up series, and others. He served in the U.S. Army and later worked as a police officer. Along with writing crime fiction, Colin is a commercial real estate broker and investor. He lives in Eastern Washington with his girlfriend and a codependent Vizsla that rules their world. Diane Worthey is the author of In One Ear and Out the Other: Antonia Brico’s Amazingly Musical Life, a girl-power book about the first woman to conduct the New York Philharmonic. Diane is a member of the SCBWI and the Moscow, Idaho SCBWI critique group. Diane has taught hundreds of private students to play violin and viola through the Suzuki Method. She currently teaches for the University of Idaho Preparatory String Division and performs in the first violin section of the Washington-Idaho Symphony. She lives in Pullman, Washington.

Elizabeth Alix
Elizabeth R. Alix has always been fascinated by ghosts and ghost stories. She has a degree in anthropology and done archaeology in the remote Aleutian Islands. She currently lives in a formerly haunted house and works as a professional archaeologist in Eastern Washington. She writes cozy ghost stories and is the author of the Maple Hill Chronicles.

Guy Worthey
Wyoming native Guy Worthey traded spurs and lassos for telescopes and computers when he decided on astrophysics for a day job. Whenever he temporarily escapes the gravitational pull of stars and galaxies, he writes fiction. He lives in Washington state with his violinist wife Diane. He likes cats and dogs and plays keyboards and bass guitar. His favorite food is called creamed eggs on toast, but once in a while he heeds the siren song of chocolate.

Khaliela Wright
When not immersed in business and economic statistics for work, Khaliela Wright writes feature articles and columns as a freelancer and occasionally creates political cartoons for regional news outlets. In addition, she has received multiple awards for her short fiction. Combining her love of books and business, she founded Hart & Hind Publishing Company in 2021. Her first novel, Klara’s Journey, was published in 2023 and the sequel, The Upbreeder is expected to be released this summer. Khaliela lives in rural Idaho and delights in being anything but the quintessential small-town girl.

Mark Ready
Mark Ready is a native of the Lewis-Clark Valley and former small business owner. Proving that you can teach an old dog new tricks, Mark did not begin writing until age 50. He emphasizes the mystical, the miraculous, and the mysterious in his Hedwig Books, which are set in Europe during the late seventeen hundreds, when science and learning were encroaching on the word of the church.

Miranda R. Carter
Miranda Carter is a writer, professor, and adventurer. Upon release, her debut essay collection, The World and My Body in It, ranked #49 on Barnes and Noble’s Top 100. Her work has appeared in Idaho Magazine, River Teeth Journal, Eunoia Review, and more. Native to Northern Idaho, she now resides in Indiana.

René Ready
René Ready is the author of the memoir Living in Shitville – What an Invisible Brain Injury Feels Like. She graduated from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa in 1987 with a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy. Retired after a brain injury in 2018 during a dentist visit, she now travels in a converted minivan exploring and photographing the western USA. René lives in Washington state with her husband and four wiener dogs. Her 31 years of clinical experience, coupled with surviving an injury of her own provides a unique perspective of the struggles of living with an invisible brain injury.

Stuart Scott
Stuart Scott and his wife, Sue, moved to Moscow, Idaho for his job with the Federal Probation and Parole Service in October 1980. He founded the Camas Prairie Winery in the fall of 1983 in his garage and ran the winery until he sold it in 2011. Stu retired from the federal service in Sept 1998. After retiring, he still worked part-time as a Protective Services Agent and body-guard until 9/11/01. Much of his writing has been influenced by his work in federal law enforcement. His book, Gritty, Grisly and Greedy: Crimes and Characters Inspired by 20 Years as a Fed includes stories of crimes committed in the Inland Northwest, including some crimes committed here on the Palouse.
This year featured authors will have an opportunity to read from their work.
Winners of the Palouse Writers Guild writing contests will be announced promptly at 6:00 pm. Entries and judges score sheets will be available for pick-up after winners are announced. Any entries not picked up the night of the event will be destroyed.
